It is produced by the young honeybees that secrete it as a liquid through their wax glands. Upon contact with the air, the wax hardens and forms small flakes of wax on the bottom of the bee. The bees use it to build the hexagonal alveoli of their honeycombs, where honey and pollen are preserved and where the queen bee lays eggs. Beeswax has many applications and excellent demand in the world market.
There are more than 300 industries that use it. The cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries are the main consumers, followed by the beekeeping industries of the developed countries and the candle industry. It is also used in the manufacture of electronic components, in modelling and the art industry, in shoes, furniture and floor polish, as well as in grafting waxes.
